What is Modesty?

    What Is Modesty?

The Greek word for modesty is “adios” that literary means bashfulness, reverence and shamefacedness.  Today in this day and age many woman are not shamefaced about their modesty. They do not cover themselves like the bible commands us to in 1 Timothy 2:9 says, “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.” KJV There you have it! God commands us to be modest and not to think about the way we look unless we are making sure we are modest.

The bible also says in Isaiah 47:2-3 “Take millstones and grind flour; take off your veil. Lift up your skirts, bare your legs, and wade through the streams. Your nakedness will be exposed and your shame uncovered.” NIV The Bible states that to uncover yourself is shameful therefore why would any Christian woman want to be seen in the skinny jeans, miniskirts, swimsuits, midriff and cleavage showing tops, pants and the shorts of today? It is ridiculous what the “experts” call fashion. If this is fashion then I won’t wear the “fashionable items”! It seems as though Sodom and Gomorrah is back. I am sure all the founding fathers are “rolling in their graves” at what the woman of this nation a so-called Christian nation at that are wearing! Let’s time travel for a few minutes shall we? And see what modesty is through the ages.

• B.C. and A.C.: modest none revealing clothing except for a few countries that .um wore nothing.

• Renaissance and Medieval times ect, ect: A few low dresses but nothing like today.

• 1700’s: Again a few low dresses but nothing that was like today. Mostly modest.

• 1800’s: Woman wore discreet dresses that where modest with the exception of some ball gowns.

• Early 1900’s – 1930’s: Modest clothing. Modest swimsuits where just coming in fashion.

• 1930’s-1950’s: Skirts and dresses that reached the knees, and not so modest swim suits where the norm as well as pants.

• 1950’s-1990’s: Immodest, shameless, not at all godly clothing was worn everyday all the time. By the late 1990’s no one was really modest except for a few handful of people.

• 1990’s-Present: : It has just gotten worse!

As you can see our countries standards have just gone downhill and are just getting worse! But to answer the question “What is Modesty” :Here is my answer: Modesty is wearing modest clothing, not being bold or forward. Obeying God whilst being modest and wearing clothes that cover us is being modest.

You can be pretty and feminine while wearing modest clothing. You can find many modest skirts, dresses, and tops that are modest and that please God. You can also be modest by wearing only skirts and dresses.

You can show modesty in your dress and actions by being careful of how you sit, stand, and walk. Always try to wear a slip and or shorts beneath dresses and do add a camisole for extra coverage beneath tops. If we claim to be Christians but wear immodest clothing what sort of testimony are we being for our Lord and savior? God loves it when we are modest.

By being modest we not only protect men and boy’s eyes but we are saving ourselves for our future spouses. If one day we do get married our husbands will appreciate it if no man has looked upon us. Think of it this way, if you would not want your husband looking upon a immodest woman than don’t wear immodest clothing! It is the same thing if you flaunt yourself to other woman’s future husbands.

God will honor and bless those that seek to do His will in all things. Even in the little things like making sure you are modest before leaving your house.
